Track Name: Letter From My Lonelier Self
LETTER FROM MY LONELIER SELF
Words & Music by Amber Rubarth (c) 2010

Here is a letter from my lonelier self
To the one that’s in love once again
I couldn’t find you so I thought that I would tell
You a few things with my favorite blue pen
This year’s been a hard one
Yeah I made so many big mistakes
I lost the heart that I’d been given
So when it’s love don’t wait to say what it is
When it’s love don’t wait to say what it is

After the fire is when the neighbors all come out
Their sadness dripping with relief it wasn’t them
And all your thoughts turn solid cause you’ve lost everything else
And you need a place to lay your head
And in the vacant silence of a lost Manhattan Boulevard
You’ll hear the answers if you listen
When it’s Love don’t wait to say what it is
When it’s Love don’t wait to say what it is

And I see couples kissing with their arms and fingers locked so tight
I hope they say the words we didn’t
When it’s Love don’t wait to say what it is
And don’t trade Love for an aimless embrace of the wind
Please don’t lose your Love the way that I did

Here is a letter from my lonelier self
To the one that’s in Love once again
Track Name: City Starts to Bloom (featuring Jason Reeves)
CITY STARTS TO BLOOM
Words & Music by Jason Reeves and Amber Rubarth (c) 2010

Street lights are screaming at me
Signals and signs
Buildings that got so hungry
They swallowed the sky
People locked in metal boxes
Waiting to ride
On streams of concrete
Rushing by, but

Whenever I’m alone with you
Busy streets go silent
The city starts to bloom
Whenever I’m alone with you
Feels just like it’s raining
From a sky that’s perfect blue
When I’m alone with you

Strangers in black and white
With eyes on the ground
Crashing into each other
Lost in the crowd
Braving the waves all hoping they will be found
On streams of concrete, rushing out but

Whenever I’m alone with you
Busy streets go silent
The city starts to bloom
Whenever I’m alone with you
Feels just like it’s raining
From a sky that’s perfect blue
When I’m alone with you

All the freckles on the sidewalks
Are just gum spots
Left like scars
We take our time to soak it all in
As so many drive past in cars
And they don’t
See the world
Like we still do ‘cause

Whenever I’m alone with you
Busy streets go silent
The city starts to bloom
Whenever I’m alone with you
Feels just like it’s raining
From a sky that’s perfect blue
When I’m alone with you
Track Name: Nothing To See Here
NOTHING TO SEE HERE
Words & Music by Amber Rubarth (c) 2009

There ain’t nothing to see here
See I just wiped my finger clean right under the rug
And there’s nothing to know my dear
Sometimes a heart stops beating just because
You know us humans are the only ones obsessing over searching for meaning and silly signs and such
But there’s nothing to see here
It’s just a common case of disappearing love

I’m sorry I didn’t call you.
See this last week my head’s been real clouded up
Yeah I was dealing with some strong, strong bleach
I scrubbed the floors and man the stains were tough
And I think that the chemicals got to my brain ‘cause I’ve been feeling a little bit woozy and numb, but nothing else is going on here. I’m sorry but I’ve gotta run.

I think I’m losing reception, I’m losing connection with the music and the spirits and the stars above and I’ve been missing my family, let’s go back to Colorado, we’ll go back to that mountain where you bought that mug. Maybe that’s all we need, I wish you were here ‘cause all this time and all of this distance is sure getting tough.

No it’s not what you think dear, she isn’t anything for you to worry about. No, she ain’t nothing to me, listen here, just a girl I ran into when I was out. And you’ve gotta trust me ‘cause I’m telling the truth and I’m saying it clear and I’m saying it loud. There ain’t nothing to see here, it’s just a common case of disappearing love.

Track Name: How Did This Happen
HOW DID THIS HAPPEN
Words & Music by Amber Rubarth (c) 2011

How did this happen again
When did the room start to spin
Out of focus and crash in the breezes
I thought we’d figured it out
Thought our hearts finally found
One love that trumped every reason

But bricks came piling up
And they blocked out the sun
Stopped our arms from holding each other
The walls we built to protect
Locked us in here instead
In the darkness, lonely and hungered
Both back to a life all alone

I want to get out
I want to get out
So I gotta give in
I gotta give in, now
I gotta give in
I want to get out
I want to get out
So I gotta give in
I gotta give in, now
I gotta give in

How did this happen again
Why did I fight to the end
In a battle I didn’t believe in
I thought we’d figured it out
Thought our hearts finally found
One Love that trumped every reason
One Love that trumped every reason
One Love that trumped every reason to go
Back to a life all alone
Track Name: Light
LIGHT
Words & Music by Amber Rubarth (c) 2011

Soft steps over the cracked foundation
Through the white lights of the greyhound station
Soft steps into the homes that let me in
Open arms, constant as stars above me
Overcome the lovers who never loved me
Open arms, reach to the one that calls my name
He calls my name

There’s a burning in my heart
That guides me in the dark
It opens up the space around me
And it never goes away
Though I close my eyes some days
The light that it pours out surrounds me

Steady breath, soften the words that shake me
Land mines and glories that overtake me
Steady breath, turn in again and find my own
Dancing flame, wait not until tomorrow
Free up, feel every joy and sorrow
Dancing flame, blow with the wind that comes again
It comes again

There’s a burning in my heart
That guides me in the dark
It opens up the space around me
And it never goes away
Though I close my eyes some days
The light that it pours out surrounds me
Track Name: Mirror (featuring Jason Mraz)
MIRROR
Words & Music by Jason Mraz and Amber Rubarth (c) 2011

You.

My heart is a mirror reflecting your face
And when you come nearer I meet you halfway
I kiss you when you kiss me
We’re one and the same
‘Cause my heart is a mirror with you in its frame

I read your words backwards
And as hard as I try
When the room steams up, I turn in and hide
Been dropped more than once
I don’t claim to be new
I only notice the cracks when they break across you

You.

I’m taking my chances, I’m taking my time
I know that it’s right when we’re locking our eyes
I tell you the truth, yeah it’s all I can do
‘Cause my heart is a mirror
It’s just empty glass without you

Can you see yourself in what I do
I can see me in you
Can you see yourself in what I do
I can see me in you
Track Name: Novocaine
NOVOCAINE
Words & Music by Amber Rubarth (c) 2008

He recognized the fracture lines and asked how bad’s the pain
I said it’s feeling worse than ever, can’t you make it go away
And he studied my heart up and down and said
I’ve never seen one quite this bad
I’ll wrap it up if you want me to but I must be warning you

A splint won’t work
A cast won’t last
A bandaid will come unglued
The only way to heal your heart
Is keep loving til one loves you
The doctor said it’s true
Now get better soon

Well I knew that I couldn’t wait and he’d walked out the door
So I grabbed the Novocaine and some pills from his drawer
And when I got home I held my heart
And bandaged all those ugly scars
I numbed the pain and popped the pills until my heart went still

And life just passed by every day
Like every day before
I felt no love I felt no pain
I played my part and nothing more
The doctor said it’s true
Now get better soon

I couldn’t stand the pain
I couldn’t stand the pain
I couldn’t stand the pain so I washed it away
I couldn’t stand the pain

I ran into the Doc last weekend at the grocery superstore
He asked me how’s it feeling and I said it’s barely sore
But he saw my eyes so dark and blank
And that practiced smile on my face
He said there’s one more thing to do and I think it might cure you

Write down every single way you loved the one that you knew
Then love yourself in that same way
And in no time you’ll be brand new
The doctor said it’s true
Get better soon
Get better soon
Get better soon
The doctor said today it can all go away
Now get better soon
Track Name: One Last Look
ONE LAST LOOK
Words & Music by Amber Rubarth (c) 2011

I fall apart every time that I take one last look at you
You walk alone through the nights and you stare out at the moon
I want to be there
I want to be with you
I want to be there
I want to be with you
When you go out
When you go out

The moon doesn’t have its own light
When the sun goes black it will too
And I feel the same way tonight
Like I’ll disappear without you

I want to be there
I want to be with you
I want to be there
I want to be with you
When you go out
When you go out

Do you ever wonder
Do you care when I’m not here
And will you question when there’s no answer
Cause I’m not here
I’m not here

I’ve been falling apart all the time
Since I took my last look at you
And I stay awake through the nights
I get so lost in the moon
I want to be there
I want to be with you
I want to be there
I want to be with you
When you go
I want to be there
I want to be with you
I want to be there
I want to be with you
When you go out
When you go out
When you go out
When you go
Out
Track Name: Rough Cut
ROUGH CUT
Words & Music by Amber Rubarth & Alex Wong (c) 2008

Suddenly you’re shaken with pain
Shooting down inside you
And now you’re crumbling away
But this isn’t like you
It doesn’t stop til it breaks down all you know
Your breathing drops and your balance goes and

It takes a minute
It doesn’t finish
You’re breaking faster
You’re nothing after
There’s nothing after

You try to make your escape
But the blows keep on coming
And as the dust clears away
You start to notice something
Each time a piece crashes down into the floor
You’re a little lighter than just before

It takes a minute
It doesn’t finish
You’ll see it after
When you’ll look backwards
And you look backwards

And now your eyes shift from negative spaces
To contours that light up this rough cut design
And now you see it
You’re sculpture in motion
You’re unfinished art that keeps going
It keeps going
It keeps going and going and going and going
